The Tutor
Hi, I'm Samhitha Kasibhatta!
I teach Economics, Finance, Statistics, and Econometrics. My major focus is to teach how to think about hard problems until they stop being hard. I am a research scholar in Finance, and have tutored for more than 150+ hours in the aforementioned subjects. I strongly believe that building the tower of a complex subject all depends on how strong the foundations are, and I build them block by block. My core teaching philosophy is to help you ask questions that make you see the interconnections to reach the answers. In an age of AI, developing intuition is the mark of humanity.
Philosophy
Why "intuition" is the whole point
I teach a wide range of subjects at various levels. This has led me to ponder about the way I structure my sessions.
About math
I see a lot of people zoning out when they are trying to prepare for any exam that involves complex mathematical notations. I always like to teach a story before using mathematical symbols as characters that help as a narrative device for that story. This helps in viewing mathematics as a language, rather than something that obstructs the flow of a subject.
Curriculum/Duration
I believe that learning something is being more and more comfortable with the basics. The better you get at a subject, the better you must understand the 101 of it. So, I typically do not like to limit the classes to a particular curriculum, unless the student requires that. It feels restrictive, and does not hold space for learning and asking interesting questions. There should be space for dialogue in every session, for both the tutor and the student to feel the fulfilment of reaching the very basic root of a particular subject. However, I do offer a list of topics I teach beforehand, so that we have a path.
Practice
Practice is a very important element of learning. Though I do not prefer conducting tests, as they have a stressful connotation, I give practice problems and take home activities.
